Daniel “DC” Cormier and Roy “Big Country” Nelson will look to settle their differences for the co-main event of the upcoming UFC 166: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos III pay-per-view in Houston, Texas, on October 19, 2013.

Cormier said that his next bout with Nelson could perhaps be his final hurrah in the heavyweight division, whether he beats Big Country or not.

“Win or lose I am going to 205,” he said. “I know Cain’s gonna be the champion for a while, so I would love to be pursuing that belt. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Cain. Why would I ever wanna try to hurt him? Why would I ever wanna try to take his belt?”

Both Cain and Cormier have been bold about their choice to never meet across from one another inside the Octagon doors, and now with Velasquez holding the heavyweight strap Cormier thinks it’s only right to drop down a weight class to try forming a title run there.

DC (12-0, 1-0 UFC) has yet to suffer a loss in mixed martial arts, the three-time state champion wrestler has incredible credentials on the mat at the Olympic-level, so it’s been shown in all of his fights that he can avoid takedowns from big, strong heavyweight fighters.

The former Strikeforce Grand Prix champion seems sure he is the one to give Jon Jones a run for his money, but he also says he’s yet to be tested in MMA. Jones was just push to his limits at UFC 165, so if Nelson can’t offer Cormier any resistance in their fight, could Cormier continue to ponder the trip to 205 pounds?
