While some fans were quick to criticize word of Travis Browne’s apparent injuries he suffered during a UFC on FOX 11 main-event loss this past weekend, one of his coaches posted some proof.

Browne (15-2-1 MMA, 6-2-1 UFC) suffered a unanimous-decision loss in Saturday’s FOX-televised headliner at Orlando, Fla.’s Amway Center. He struggled against Fabricio Werdum (18-5-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) in the five-round title eliminator and began to noticeably slow after the first round.

After the event, UFC President Dana White offered a possible explanation.

“They think he has a broken rib,” White said in the post-fight press conference. “And he definitely has a broken hand.”

For those who said the heavyweight was making excuses, grappling coach Ricky Lundell offered a response on Twitter:

In the official list of UFC on FOX 11 medical suspensions, Browne received a 90-day term due to a broken nose and a facial laceration about his right eye. The suspensions didn’t mention possible hand or rib injuries, though the post-fight examinations aren’t always thorough and comprehensive.

Browne now faces a potentially lengthy layoff as he recovers for the injuries. The 31-year-old had won three straight fights via knockout, besting the likes of Alistair Overeem and Josh Barnett, until his recent setback. However, in the heavyweight division, where champion Cain Velasquez has already defeated many contenders, Browne is still only a couple wins away from a title shot.
