In a letter posted on Twitter, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre comes out to explain the recent report stating he was supporting a man on trial for drug trafficking.

St-Pierre, who announced a hiatus from the sport last year, and Jimmy Cournoyer were linked together as friends. GSP explains in the letter, which you can view below, that he “simply wanted to help repatriate Jimmy to a Canadian prison, closer to his family.”

Cournoyer is on trial for drug trafficking charges. He is known as the “King of Pot” and will be sentenced August 20.

“I have been to visit Jimmy in prison – twice so far,” St-Pierre wrote. “I believe in redemption, and I believe in loyalty. I will continue to support him – as a friend.”
