Oh I agree. Just stating an obvious fact I guess.

Yeah, taking Nog and Torres off the list for obvious reasons, the rest of the list is pretty hard to dispute.

Basically what happened was that Machida and Shogun tied on points when we were doing the rankings but Machida got more first place votes. That's why he's one and Shogun is two. Think of it that way if it makes it easier. Like I said earlier, there are a few kinks that need to be worked out in the polling system and with the presentation but rest assured that the April rankings will show some improvement related to the concerns posted in this thread.

Anyway, aside from Machida, Shogun, and Evans, who do you see at the top of the division?

Seriously, Bablu or Luis Cane should be in the LHW 10 spot.

As was explained earlier in the thread there are like 10 different guys that deserve to end up in the 10th spot for the LHW division. The fact that so many names have come up in the criticism of that particular division only serves to prove this. I mean, you have Cane, Babalu, Bader, Jones, and Mo that are all winning against tough competition or putting on good winning streaks or what have you but there is such a log jam in that division, it's ridiculous. I personally blame how deep the division is itself for causing the difficulty in ranking fighters there but to be perfectly honest, when we were trying to figure out who to put where the only agreement most of us came up with was who would be top five and who wouldn't. The rest is pretty much a crap shoot.

Sort of the same problem we had with HW as well. Anyway, all personal criticisms aside, you at least have to admit that these are better than Sherdog's rankings. Surely you can do that for us!

Damn, I spelled Babalu wrong again...uh anyway, my 7 year old brother could put up better rankings than Sherdog. I'm just loving calling out what I believe is the most glaring mistake on these rankings. I honestly think that Cane should be on the list more than Jones and especially King Mo. He did defeat Cantwell, Soko and Jason Lambert.

I'd show you what the point spread looked like but I'm not entirely sure if we have agreed to release that yet. So suffice to say the point spread after the top 4 was pretty fucked.

Yeah especially at the bottom of LHW. There were probably like 8 different names that could be in the 10th spot lol. I think the fact that in Babalu's last fight he was left asking "what happened?" really hurts him. Especially in the first round. Cane was also left wondering what happened after his last fight. For the first rankings I think the last impression a fighter left was pretty important.

Well hopefully I'll get to see it.

Yeah, I'm guessing that's what happened. But still, getting destroyed by Mousasi or Lil Nog....well okay, just Lil Nog since Mousasi wasn't a ranked LHW, shouldn't change a guy's ranking.

Just my personal "method". Sometimes losing to a high ranking guy helps out alot. Like Kos lost to GSP, Alves and Thiago. Now GSP and Alves are top notch guys so that does not hurt him too much, especially since WW is not as deep as LHW imo. Now take Babalu or Cain and they also lost to a top fighter but in the stacked LHW div that is enough to knock you down a peg and in this case that peg means dropping to 11th or 12th. IMO both of them have top ten talent, and if they come back and win their next fight and another guy loses (which will happen since they all fight each other) then that will bump them up again.

It is really interesting to see how different people make their top ten. Not just who they put there, but how they decided to put them there. I ranked Mousasi pretty low because he has not had that many fights at LHW, other ranked him very high because he is super talented. Potential vs Proven.

Just curious what would your top ten look like for LHW?

Nah i wasn't really arguing the rankings it was more of why bother with 1a and 1b i mean machida is the champ why not just say he is #1 and shogun who is challenging him is #2 i just thought it was funny there was no "#2"

but yea idk rashad i guess is on top but i would still rank rampage over him (now i know it was mentioned he is out of action...but that is only my opinion despite him being out of action i think hes still better than rashad")

Hmmm...good point about Mousasi. I'll say that first. Sure Babalu was the champion but he was also the only top 10 LHW outside the UFC.

And I still believe that having more big wins and losing to someone who clearly outranked you (case and point Cane/Lil Nog) shouldn't make a fighter drop out of the LHW top 10 even though the division is stacked.

I'm trying to come up with my top 10 right now. Hold on.

Not sure if it is good that I agree with a guy called T_Bagger or not, but I agree lol. I assure you that your feelings were echoed in the discussion because that is how I feel. In the end it was decided to list them as A B which I am ok with because they will be fighting soon and the winner will be clear cut #1. Also I think (and several others that made the rankings) that Rampage is better than Rashad, and if he was active it would have been super close, but again once he comes back he will fight Rashad and that will be sorted out also.

1. Mauricio Rua
2. Lyoto Machida
3. Rashad Evans
4. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
5. Gegard Mousasi
6. Forrest Griffin
7. Randy Couture
8. Thiago Silva
9. Luis Cane
10. Renato Sobral

PHEW! That it took an embarassing amount of brain power to finish this light. Dammit, I had some good notes that really broke down why I made my LHW top 10 the way I did but lost them because I got logged out. Just go ahead and ask me some questions.

Top 3 the same. 4 and 5 just flip flopped.

Silva and Griffin flip flopped. I think that is based on what has been proven where ours is based on potential. Silva only has two loses and they are to #1 and #3, Griffin has a bunch of losses but also some SUPER wins.

Randy at 7 or 9 is not a huge difference. I think him not fighting at LHW for a long ass time and only have two fights back hurts, 1 against Coleman :| and the other was debatable against Vera. His record years ago is great and he certainly has the ability to beat anyone here, but he needs few current fights IMO.

The only major difference is Cane and Sobral vs Jones and Mo. I think we went with more potential here as obviously Cane and Sobral have done more, but sometimes potential helps out. Also the fact that the last image of Cane and Sobral are of them laying out cold plays a big role. Either way I don't think you can go wrong in the tale end of this list.
