An MRI scan sure makes it seem like Evangelista Santos is living up to his “Cyborg” nickname.

The veteran fighter sent MMAjunkie a series of photos following skull surgery on Wednesday.

The successful surgery, performed by Dr. Jonathon Jundt and Dr. Nagi Demian, followed a gruesome injury the welterweight suffered on July 16.

At Bellator 158 in London, Michael Page (11-0 MMA, 7-0 BMMA) tagged Santos (21-18 MMA, 1-2 BMMA) with a flying knee flush to the forehead (via Twitter):

“Cyborg,” a Brazilian vet who made his pro debut nearly 19 years ago, suffered a second-round knockout loss, a dented forehead and cracked skull and viral-video status (see the video above).

Bellator President Scott Coker told MMAjunkie the organization will pay all of Santos’ medical bills – and give him his win bonus despite the Spike-televised loss. Santos told MMAjunkie a GoFundMe fundraiser set up his ex-wife, fellow fighter Cristiane Justino, will be used for a community project to help kids in his native Brazil.

Santos and his doctors said a recovery update should be available in the next few days.
