Ultimate Fighter Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen winner Kelvin Gastelum was set to meet UFC vet Paulo Thiago in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 28th before Thiago sustained a knee injury that forced him out of the bout, it didn’t take very long to find a replacement for the 21-year old TUF winner.
Brian Melancon knocked Seth Baczynski senseless at UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman just last month. With no nicks or bruises, the knockout artist will be looking to bring Gastelum’s momentum to a screeching halt when they meet in the Octagon later this month.
Gastelum (6-0, 1-0 UFC) finished all of his opponents on TUF before bulldozing through Uriah Hall’s hype train to come out on top in the end.
Melancon (7-2, 1-0 UFC) arrived to the Octagon with zero momentum having been absent from combat sports competition since a Strikeforce win in Sept. 2011. He would show no ring rust as he took Baczynski out in impressive fashion for a KO win in his UFC debut.
