UFC Fight Night 44 results: Oleksiy Oliynyk quickly taps Anthony Hamilton

SAN ANTONIO – After 58 fights during a 17-year pro career and recent wins over the likes of Jeff Monson and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Oleksiy Oliynyk finally added a UFC victory to his resume.

Oliynyk (49-9-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) needed just a few minutes to tap out fellow UFC heavyweight newcomer Anthony Hamilton (12-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

The bout opened the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 44 event at AT&T Center in San Antonio. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of additional prelims and a main card on FOX Sports 1.

The fighters traded punches early, and Oliynyk wobbled his opponent with a big punch. After a brief timeout when Hamilton took a low punch to the junk while clinched against the cage, Oliynyk rattled his opponent with a hook, scored a takedown and moved to side control. A tap-out via neck crank came seconds later.

The official stoppage came at the 2:18 mark of the round.

Oliynyk has now won 10 straight fights, and 40 of his 49 career wins have come via submission. Although an elder statesman at 37 years old, he provides a solid addition to the UFC’s aging heavyweight roster.

Hamilton, a recent MFC fighter, snaps a six-fight winning streak.
