== Mixed Martial Arts Career ==
Camoes began competing in mixed martial arts in 2000, going 4-4, before entering the Super Challenge 1 Lightweight Tournament. He submitted his first opponent early in the first round with a Guillotine Choke, and then earned a spot in the finals by defeating his second round opponent by Decision (Unanimous). He faced off against former Cage Rage Lightweight Champion Jean Silva in the finals, upsetting his opponent in the first round with an Armbar.

=== EliteXC / Strikeforce Career ===
After winning the tournament, Camoes was picked up by the upstart EliteXC promotion. He took part in two events, each of which were part of their challenger series featured on Showtime. His first fight was against Joe Camacho, who at the time of the fight was the KOTC Lightweight Champion. He went on to defeat Camacho by TKO (Punches) in the first round.

His second fight under the EliteXC banner took place at ShoXC Hamman vs Suganuma II, where he faced off against UFC veteran Sam Morgan. The bout lasted a mere 47 seconds, as Camoes ended it early in the first round with a Rear Naked Choke.

When EliteXC went under, Strikeforce acquired many of their contracts, including Camoes’. He went on to face Torrance Taylor on May 15, 2009 at Strikeforce Challengers Evangelista vs Aina, where he submitted Taylor with a Rear Naked Choke at 3:21 of the first round.

===UFC Career ===
Camões went on to sign a four-fight contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and made his debut at UFC 106 against Caol Uno, with the fight ending in a draw after a point was deducted in the 2nd round against Camoes for an illegal upkick.

Camoes was next scheduled to face Kurt Pellegrino on March 27, 2010 at [[UFC 111 St. Pierre vs Hardy]]. Pellegrino found himself in trouble early. After an early scramble, Camoes jumped to the back and waited patiently with both hooks wrapped around a standing Pellegrino. When “Batman” reached down to shake one of the legs, Camoes locked in the rear-naked choke. Pellegrino remained calm, and he slammed Camoes head-first into the mat. The gamble paid off, and the Brazilian released the hold and appeared dazed from the blow. Pellegrino took the advantage in each transition. Pellegrino briefly held mount, but it was the back where he would earn victory, where he sunk in a Rear Naked Choke at the end of the second round.

After the loss to Kurt Pellegrino, Camoes was released from the UFC.
