== Early Years ==
In 1969 Jaime Jara was born in North Highlands, California. His father was the wrestling coach at Rio Linda High School where Jamie attended.
Jaime started wrestling in high school. His senior year he went 56-1 placing 2nd in the California State Championship. After high school he briefly attended Sierra College. At the age of 22 he began studying martial arts. Shortly after receiving his black belt, he took over his own school and began teaching. At the age of 33 he began training to compete in MMA events. A few months later he found himself fighting in the cage. Jaime was awarded Tyson Johnson’s Gladiator Challenge 2005 Fighter of the Year Award.
He has become the first fighter in MMA history to own titles in four different weight classes; Gladiator Challenge Heavyweight Championship, Gladiator Challenge Light Heavyweight Championship, Gladiator Challenge Middleweight Championship, and Gladiator Challenge Welterweight Championship.
== Mixed Martial Arts Career ==
Jara took part in a Gladiator Challenge Light Heavyweight Tournament on June 2nd and 3rd of 2004. He faced off against future UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans in the finals of the tournament, losing a Decision (Unanimous).
After two impressive performances over Dusty Arden, where he ended both fights in the first round, he was given a middleweight title shot against Jeff Morris. The fight took place in March of 2007 at GC 59. Once again, in dominant fashion, Jara ended the fight in the first round, submitting his opponent with a Triangle Choke to earn the GC Middleweight Championship.
In his first title defense, Jara faced Hawaiian Bryson Kamaka. The fight, once again, didn’t make it past the halfway point of the first round, with Jara submitting him with a Neck Crank. From there he once again defended his title, this time against Jake Paul, this time by a Triangle Choke.

Jara was next featured on an EliteXC‘s Elite Challenger Series event. He took the fight on short notice, and as a welterweight. He faced Jeremiah Metcalf for the GC welterweight title on the line, in Metcalf’s first title defense. Jara ended the fight at 4:15 of the first round by KO (Punch), earning the GC welterweight title, on top of his middleweight title.
Jara earned his fifth title on May 9, 2008 where he defeated Steve Heath for the PURECOMBAT Middleweight Championship with a third round TKO.
After making a successful appearance at a PFC event, Jara took part in ShoXC 8, another EliteXC Challenger Series event, for his third time. He faced Givanildo Santana, and won by Decision (Split). He next returned to PFC at PFC 11 All In, where he faced Leopoldo Serao, losing a Decision (Unanimous). After winning a fight outside of the PFC, he returned to the promotion at PFC 13 Validation, where he face former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion turned middleweight, Doug Marshall. The fight was a closely contested bout, but it was Marshall who walked away with the Decision (Split).
On March 12, 2010, Jara was inducted into the MMA-KO Hall of Fame. He was the first inductee, and he was chosen due to his impressive resume as the only fighter in mixed martial arts to hold titles in four weight classes.
Back in May of 2008, Jara faced off against long-time MMA veteran Steve Heath for the vacant PURECOMBAT Middleweight Championship. It seemed more of a power-play to get PURECOMBAT some mainstream relevance, as Heath had only competed twice in 2007 and before that hadn’t competed since 2004. Jara won the title in the third round due to TKO. He was expected to return to PURECOMBAT to defend his title in May of 2010, but Al Joslin, the President of PURECOMBAT, wanted to add more stipulations to the contract, which Jara had already signed. When Jara said he was not willing to sign the new contract with the added stipulations, Joslin stripped him of the title at the induction ceremony for MMA-KO.
: “I was supposed to fight for him May 7… I signed the contract and everything,” explains Jara. “After we sent it back. Al Joslin wanted to add more stipulations to the contract. Like I had to wear trunks and walkout shirts he supplied. Also I would not be able to have any of my own sponsors. So we said we couldn’t fight under those terms. He said fine. He was coming to the induction to strip me of title.”
Jara was featured on HDNet Fights, as part of the broadcast of KOTC Legacy, a King of the Cage (KOTC) event on March 26, 2010. On the card he faced Tim Means, who he went on to defeat by a Guillotine Choke part-way through the first round. The fight was his first of his six contracted fight with KOTC, that he had signed recently before the fight took place.
