== Mixed Martial Arts Career ==
=== UFC Career ===
Wiuff has competed twice in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). His first appearance took place against Vladimir Matyushenko on November 22, 2002 at UFC 40 Vendetta, where a five-fight win streak was stopped due to a first round loss by Submission (Punches).
He did not return to the UFC until UFC 52 Couture vs Liddell 2 in March of 2005, where he faced off against Brazilian Renato Sobral. The bout was in jeopardy when Wiuff almost failed his eye exam, which was a problem he had in the past, but in the end Wiuff passed the exam and went on to face Sobral. At 0:24 of the second round, Wiuff got caught in a fight ending Armbar, being handed his second loss with the promotion. The loss ended a 19-fight win streak that Wiuff had going.
=== IFL Career ===
Wiuff competed three times with the International Fight League (IFL). He began competing for Pat Miletich‘s Team Silverbacks, where he lost both his fights against Alex Schoenauer and Devin Cole.
When Dwayne Compton, the Heavyweight competitor on Frank Shamrock‘s Team Razorclaws did not pass an eye exam, Wiuff’s name was passed on to Shamrock, who ended up giving Wiuff a call.
: “It was pretty crazy. I had something at the end of the month,” Wiuff exlains, “so I was preparing for that and one day I was sitting around the house and got a call from Frank Shamrock. Being a huge fan of the sport that I am, having never spoken to him before he called me, I didn’t believe it, I had to ask him a few times if it was really him. It happens that his heavyweight (Dwayne Compton) that was supposed to be on his team didn’t pass his eye exam so Shannon Knapp passed my name on to Frank to be a replacement. He called me up and asked me, I was definitely willing to do it and it went well.
Though a late replacement, Wiuff went on to handle his opponent, Wojtek Kaszowski, for three straight rounds, earning a Decision (Unanimous). The win also broke Wiuff’s three-fight losing streak, something he had never done in his career, as he had never lost two-fights in a row ever, until the three-fight slide. He attributed his win partially to his improved Boxing and game plan, which he worked on with Shamrock, during their time training for the bout.
: “He made it really easy for me to learn from him, which is hard for me to do; I don’t pick up on things really easy, especially when it comes to striking and boxing. He gave me some really good tips and advice and it clicked immediately. He made everything very easy for me.”
In the post-fight interview Wiuff was asked what his status was with the Razorclaws, as he had fought previously on Pat Miletich‘s team. Both Wiuff and Shamrock said Wiuff’s future in the IFL would be with the Razorclaws, though the promotion closed operations, and Wiuff never got the chance to compete for Shamrock’s team again.
=== PRIDE Career ===
After a Decision (Unanimous) over Jason Guida at a Xtreme Fighting Organization event at the end of 2006, Wiuff made his first and only appearance with PRIDE. His opponent was King of the Cage (KOTC) veteran James Lee, who was also making his debut with the promotion. The bout took place at PRIDE 33 Second Coming, and Wiuff was handed a 39 second loss by Guillotine Choke.
=== YAMMA Pit Fighting ===
Wiuff participated in YAMMA Pit Fighting 1, a one night eight-man Heavyweight tournament at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey, that took place on April 11, 2008.
In the opening round, Wiuff faced off against Marcelo Donald Pereira, whom he defeated by Decision (Unanimous) to move on to the Quarterfinals. His opponent for the Quarterfinals was former KOTC and UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriguez. Once again, Wiuff won a dominating Decision (Unanimous).
Moving on to the tournament finals, Wiuff faced Minnesota Martial Arts Academy product, Chris Tuchscherer, who defeated Tony Sylvester and Alexey Oleinik to earn a spot in the finals. Wiuff went on to win the Yamma Pit Fighting Heavyweight Tournament with a Decision (Unanimous) win over Tuchscherer.
=== Sengoku Career ===
After winning the Yamma Pit Fighting Heavyweight Tournament, it was announced the Wiuff had singed with Sengoku.
He competed for the Japanese promotion World Victory Road a total of three times. In his first outing, he defeated Kazuyuki Fujita in a Heavyweight bout by KO (Punches) at Sengoku Third Battle. He next was upset by Wrestling stand-out Muhammed Lawal on September 28, 2009 at Sengoku Fifth Battle, where he was defeated by TKO (Punches) in the first round. His third outing with Sengoku, and his first as a Light Heavyweight, took place at Sengoku Eighth Battle, where he faced Bulgarian Stanislav Nedkov, losing by TKO (Punches) early in the third round.
=== Post-Sengoku Career ===
Wiuff won a quick 41 second Submission victory due to Punches at an Extreme Challenge event once leaving Sengoku in August of 2009. From there he won the vacant IFC Heavyweight Championship, which had been vacated by Justin Eilers, when the UFC veteran passed away. Eilers was a close friend of Wiuff’s.
: “The belt became available from Justin Eilers,†explained Wiuff. “He was the title holder and passed away last Christmas.”
: “A couple of months after that happened, I got a hold of Paul Smith, who is the owner for the IFC, and asked him if there was any opportunity to get the belt because Justin was a close friend of mine.â€ÂÂ
: “We trained together a lot, lived together for a little bit, and cornered each other for a lot of fights, (including when) I cornered him versus (Andrei) Arlovski for the UFC belt (at UFC 53). It was an opportunity to keep that belt in the family, and Paul agreed and we went from there.â€ÂÂ
His opponent was Tracy Willis, and he went on to win the vacant title at 1:46 of the second round due to Submission (Punches).
: “Obviously the belt is nice, and hopefully I get an opportunity to defend the belt, but it was nice to win the belt for Justin,†commented Wiuff. “I know he was smiling down on me that night, and I know he was happy, and that made me feel good knowing he’d be excited.â€ÂÂ
After a quick Armbar victory at a Fight Nation event at the end of 2009, Wiuff faced Justin Newcomb for his first fight of 2010, as well as his first IFC Heavyweight title defense. Wiuff successfully defended the title, defeating Newcomb by TKO (Punches) after only a minute of the first round.
It was learned at the beginning of 2010 that King of the Cage would begin to air live on HDNet. The first event to be aired would be KOTC Vengeance, which Wiuff was featured on, where he faced off aginst UFC and Strikeforce veteran Mike Kyle. Wiuff went on to be defeated by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at the end of the second round.
Wiuff earned a Decision (Unanimous) win in his next fight over Chuck Hoskins, and then about a month later faced off against former UFC title contender Jeff Monson. The two battled for three straight round with Wiuff walking away the winner by way of Decision (Split).
He was next scheduled to face off against Mu Bae Choi on May 21, 2010 at Moosin MMA Sylvia vs Pudzianowski, but Choi was forced off the bout for undisclosed reasons only days before the fight and replaced by Josh Barnes. At the beginning of the fight, Wiuff evaded a Barnes punch and countered with a powerful left hook that wobbled his foe. A four-punch combination followed and sent Barnes crashing to the canvas. Wiuff pounced on the wounded prey and finished off the fight just 34 seconds into the round.
