== Mixed Martial Arts Career ==
Prangley started his career on a six-fight win streak, with a notable victory over Chael Sonnen, and would stay undefeated before losing by decision to Renato Sobral at IFC: Global Domination. Prangley reigned victorious in his next two fights before signing a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
He made his debut in the UFC at UFC 48 Payback, defeating Curtis Stout by submission. He next fought two bouts outside the UFC, losing the first, and then defeating future IFL Middleweight Champion Matt Horwich by decision. Prangley would return to the UFC at UFC 54 Boiling Point, where he faced Travis Lutter, who Prangley would go on to defeat by decision. At UFC 56 Full Force, Prangley faced Jeremy Horn, who was coming off a failed title shot, losing a decision, and his last outing in the UFC was an Armbar loss at the hands of Chael Sonnen, whom Prangley had defeated in the past, at UFC 60 Hughes vs Gracie.
Leaving the UFC, Prangley then fought for several organizations, including BodogFIGHT, where he qualified for the USA vs Russia card on the reality show, and defeated Andrei Semenov at the event.
Prangley went on to defeat Yuki Kondo at BodogFIGHT: Alvarez vs Lee via TKO (doctor stoppage) following the conclusion of the second round.
He was then a contestant for the [[Strikeforce Four Men Enter, One Man Survives]] Middleweight tournament. He won a decision victory over Falaniko Vitale in the first round of the tournament. He then faced off against Jorge Santiago in the finals, losing to the American Top Team fighter by KO (Knee to the Body).
He then defeated Anthony Ruiz by unanimous decision at Strikeforce Playboy Mansion 2.
Prangley then found himself in a weird spot, trying to get an acceptable contract, but not being able to secure one.
: “I actually had to fight on my own show just a couple of months ago (in March) just to stay busy. I threw my own show up in Idaho, and I fought in the main event,” said Prangley, referring to his bout with Isidro Gonzalez at a Professional Fighting Association event, a MMA fight organization which Prangley owns.
=== MFC and Contract Dispute ===
On May 15, 2009, Prangley defeated Emanuel Newton to earn himself the Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) Light Heavyweight Championship, winning with a unanimous decision. He was later stripped of his title due to a contract dispute.
According to Prangley, he had been asking for a fight with the promotion, yet nothing was materializing, so he took a fight outside of the MFC. He went on to face Dennis Reed, whom he went on to defeat in only 20 seconds of the first round by KO (Punch). By taking a fight outside of the MFC, the promotion stated that Prangley had broken his contract, and subsequently was stripped of his Light Heavyweight title.
=== Post-MFC ===
After being stripped of the title, Prangley scheduled to face off against Greg Jackson trained Marcus Sursa at a Shark Fights event in November, that would determine the promotion’s Light Heavyweight Champion. Before the fight, Sursa was 3-0 with the promotion. Prangley won the fight by catching Sursa in a Rear Naked Choke in the first round to become the Shark Fights Light Heavyweight champion.
: “I should be in Strikeforce at the latest in February next year or so I’ve been told,” Prangley commented. “I’m excited to go back to 85. I’ve been fighting at 205 the last few fights. It’s tough to get fights at 85, but that’s the weight I’m at and when we get to bigger shows like Strikeforce the guys aren’t going to have an opportunity to duck it like they have on the outside.”
Only a week or so after winning the Shark Fight title, in early December 2009, it was announced that Prangley would be returning to Strikeforce at Strikeforce Evolution on December 19, 2009, facing off against former EliteXC Middleweight Champion Robbie Lawler. The bout would be a Middleweight contest, which is exactly what Prangley wanted. It was then learned in mid-December 2009 that Prangley would no longer be able to compete against Lawler as he had sustained an injury in training.
It was later learned that Prangley would return to action at Strikeforce Challengers 6 Prangley vs Amoussou, taking place February 26, 2010 in San Jose, California, against French fighter Karl Amoussou. The bout was Prangley’s return to Middleweight. While the action in the opening round wasn’t always constant, it was explosive. Amoussou peppered Prangley with shots while bobbing and weaving. Meanwhile, the five-time Strikeforce veteran in Prangley stood firm in the pocket and fired powerful shots in return. Neither earned a decided advantage in the clinch early, but an open-handed left-counter from Prangley caught Amoussou directly in the right eye, and he staggered to the fence. The action was halted with 46 seconds left in the frame for a doctor’s inspection, but with Amoussou unable to open his eye immediately following the accidental foul the fight was waved off, resulting in a technical draw. Both fighters looked disappointed with the result, and the crowd voiced its displeasure as well, but there was little choice in the matter.
Staying at Middleweight, Prangley next faced Tim Kennedy on June 26, 2010 at Strikeforce Los Angeles. Kennedy tried to take the fight to the mat early, though it was Prangley who struck first with a beautiful hip toss, but Kennedy popped immediately back to his feet and changed the course of the fight. Kennedy began to work the takedown against the cage, and he was relentless in the attack. Prangley defended well briefly, but Kennedy drug his opponent to the floor and quickly passed into mount. Prangley rolled to avoid damage and began to work back to his feet. Kennedy calmly remained on the back with his hooks firmly planted, and he sunk in the Rear Naked Choke. Prangley tried briefly to escape, but the tap came quickly and decisively at the 3:35 mark of the opening round.
After the loss, Prangley was announced to return to Shark Fights, as well as the Light Heavyweight division, where he would face off against UFC veteran Keith Jardine in a non-title bout. The fight was Jardine’s first fight since being released from the UFC. Prangley effectively attacked the awkward style of Jardine both on the feet and the floor for two solid rounds and then absorbed everything “The Dean of Mean” could throw during a rousing final stanza en route to a split-decision result. The win put Prangley back in the win column, while handing Jardine his fifth straight loss.
