Mixed Martial Arts Career
Ishida's pro debut was on July 6, 2001 at Shooto: To the Top 6 against Daisuke Sugie where he lost via unanimous decision. He then went on to win his next four fights. In February 17, 2006 he defeated Kenichiro Togashi to obtain the Shooto Pacific Rim Championship Belt.
At Pride Shockwave 2006 he lost to Takanori Gomi in a non-title fight on December 31, 2006, his first defeat in that organization. As a result of the loss to Gomi, he was unable to defend his Shooto Pacific Rim Welterweight Championship at a mandatory title defense in February 2007.
His most notable victory to date was a unanimous decision victory over previously undefeated Gilbert Melendez at Yarennoka!. He made his U.S mainland debut at Strikeforce: Playboy Mansion winning against Justin Wilcox by armbar.
On March 15, 2008, Ishida competed in the opening round of the Dream Lightweight Grand Prix, defeating Korean judoka Jung Bu-Kyung. He proceeded to lose to Caol Uno in the quarter-finals at DREAM.3 via rear naked choke.
When Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Josh Thomson was forced off the Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg event, Ishida replaced him to fight Gilbert Melendez for his interim Strikeforce Lightweight title. Melendez would avenge his first career loss, defeating Ishida in the third round via TKO (Punches).
Ishida did not compete again in 2009, but returned in 2010, making his debut in the Featherweight division, where he faced Daiki Hata on July 10, 2010 at DREAM 15. Ishida controlled the action on the floor throughout the contest, threatening with an armbar early and delivering punishment from top position throughout the matchup. Hata worked to an advantageous position with a choke attempt in the second round, but he was never close to ending the fight. Ishida went on to win the Decision (Unanimous).
His next fight took place at DREAM 16, where he fought Akiyo Nishiura. Ishida worked frequent takedowns almost exclusively in favor of striking for the 15-minute affair, though Nishiura was able to regain his feet quickly each time. In the second frame, Ishida was able to gain mount, but it was Nishiura who drew first blood with a successful sprawl in the final moments that led to a barrage of hammerfists to his opponent's face. It wasn't enough to sway the judges, who awarded Ishida a Decision (Split) win.
