The UFC returns to Montreal, Quebec this Saturday with an epic card set to take place at the Bell Centre. Headlining the event is welterweight Champion and pound for pound great, Georges St. Pierre, taking on Stockton’s own bad boy, former Strikeforce welterweight champion, Nick Diaz. Former Interim welterweight champion, Carlos Condit is looking to stay in the title hunt as he is set to clash with the man whom many feel should be the true number one contender, Johny Hendricks, in a battle that will serve as the co- main event. The entire card is stacked with great fights, and will make for a historic night in Canada.
Carlos Condit vs. Johny Hendricks fight prediction
Condit is coming off a loss to the champion St. Pierre, in a fight which showed his inability to consistently fend off takedowns from an explosive wrestler, Hendricks is fresh off a devastating knockout victory over perennial contender Martin Kampmann, and is riding a five fight win streak. Despite having the wrestling credentials to possibly immolate St. Pierre’s game plan, I don’t see Hendricks wanting to take this fight to the ground having recently discovered his one punch knockout power that has been destroying his opponents lately. Condit is best known for his technical, brutal striking style, and Hendricks isn’t exactly the most technical striker but is without a doubt the most powerful puncher at 170 lbs. right now. We’ve seen how well Condit can use his footwork to keep himself out of dangerous positions with strikers as elite as Nick Diaz, the question is will he be able to do it with Hendricks. After Hendricks’s recent victories don’t expect Condit to sit in the pocket and brawl with him, if he does it will not go his way. I think Condit will be able to do what Kampann failed to do, and that’s use his range and footwork to outpoint Hendricks on the feet. I just don’t see Hendricks being able to land that one punch with Condit’s evasive style, and if he takes it to the ground I don’t think he possess the top game St. Pierre posses in being able to hold Condit down. I see Condit earning a close decision victory.
Prediction: Carlos Condit def. Johny Hendricks by split decision
