Given the crowd appeal of an Irish fighter in an Irish-American enclave such as Boston, Massachusetts, the addition of Ireland’s Conor McGregor to the UFC on Fox Sports 1 fight card is a no-brainer. Â Although an opponent has not been named by the company many unbooked UFC featherweights have taken to twitter and youtube to try and ‘Chael’ their way into the TD Garden event.
Season 14 Ultimate Fighter contestant, Akira Corossani, issued a challenge to McGregor via youtube brandishing his very own handwritten fight contract.
“Bad Boy” Leonard Garcia, currently riding a 5 fight losing streak, Â took to twitter to campaign for the fight on 8/17.
@thenotoriousmma @seanshelby @ufc I think this is a real fight my bad run came from fighting guys I’m not afraid of! You are a threat!
– Leonard Garcia (@badboygarcia) May 6, 2013
Both Akira and Leonard expressed their respect for Conor as well as their desire to fight him on 8/17, two sentiments that cannot be attributed to Northern Irish fighter and winner of The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, Norman Parke.
