Jon Fitch’s World Series of Fighting debut is set. The former UFC welterweight contender will meet Josh Burkman at WSOF 3 on June 14 in Las Vegas, Ray Sefo, WSOF president, confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com Wednesday. Both fighters recently verbally agreed to the bout. The non-title welterweight clash will serve as the main event of WSOF 3, and it will also be a rematch of a fight Fitch won via second-round rear-naked choke submission at UFC Fight Night 4 in 2006. The 35-year-old Fitch (24-5-1) was released from the UFC in February following his loss to Demian Maia. He signed a multi-fight deal with WSOF earlier this month. Burkman (25-9) has won his last four fights in a row, and he’s coming off a first-round knockout of Aaron Simpson at WSOF 2 this past Saturday night. Following the fight, Burkman expressed little interest in fighting Fitch in June, but he changed his tune earlier this week. The 32-year-old veteran is 7-1 since leaving the UFC in 2008. The promotion is expected to announce a venue in Las Vegas for the card, which will air on NBC Sports Network, shortly.
