Despite being 49 years of age, UFC Hall of Famer and MMA pioneer Ken Shamrock is returning to competitive mixed martial arts action. ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’ will face fellow UFC veteran Ian Freeman in a bout for the Ultimate Cage Fighting Championships at Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster, England on July 27. Sherdog.com was the first to report the news. Shamrock has lost 10 of his last 14 MMA bouts, most recently a TKO injury stoppage loss to Mike Bourke at a King of the Cage event in November of 2010. The one-time UFC Superfight champion has competed in a number of organizations, including PRIDE, Pancrase, Cage Rage, Impact FC and many others including several stints as a professional wrestler. He was a coach opposite of Tito Ortiz on the third season of Spike TV’s ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ and is the founder of The Lion’s Den MMA camp. He is 28-15-2 in professional MMA. Freeman, 42, has been on the shelf since May of 2008, where he lost to Paul Cahoon at Cage Rage 26 by unanimous decision. Freeman went 3-2-1 in his UFC career, most famously stopping Frank Mir with strikes at UFC 38 in July of 2002. He was scheduled to face Forrest Griffin at UFC 55, but was injured in a horse-riding accident. Freeman subsequently retired from the sport, however, he returned to win both the Cage Rage heavyweight title – a title he later vacated – and the Cage Rage British light heavyweight crown.
