UFC 160 results: Glover Teixeira taps out James Te Huna

LAS VEGAS — With his idol Mike Tyson watching from the front row of the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Glover Teixeira pulled off a finish with a Tyson-like swiftness, closing out James Te Huna with a guillotine choke at 2:38 of the opening round. Teixeira, who came into the fight with 19 straight wins, has quickly gained steam as a potential UFC light-heavyweight title contender, and he’s plowed through his first four UFC opponents. Te Huna (16-6), who came into the fight on a four-fight win streak, could do little to stop the runaway train at UFC 160. Teixeira scored an early takedown, and after he worked some cursory ground and pound from the top, Te Huna was briefly able to get to his feet. But Teixeira kept his arm locked under Te Huna’s chin, and pulled guard. He was able to trap Te Huna’s right arm with his leg, and the Kiwi tapped soon after. Teixeira said he watched Tyson highlights prior to the bout to fire himself up. Apparently it worked. Afterward, Tyson entered the cage to congratulate him on the win. The Brazilian is becoming quite the phenomenon himself. Prior to the match, he voiced some doubt about how many fans were truly aware of him, but he got a huge pop during his introduction, and an even louder one upon winning. Following his wins over Quinton Rampage Jackson and Te Huna, he’s now 21-2, and in the mix behind only a few names like Alexander Gustafsson on the contender list.
