He made his professional MMA debut on the 25th June 2006 defeating his opponent via rear naked choke in the first round.

== Mixed Martial Arts Career ==
After signing a four fight deal, Hathaway was scheduled to fight undefeated Tom Egan at UFC 93 Franklin vs Henderson. He made an impressive UFC debut, scoring a dominant TKO win over Egan via elbows, expanding his record to a perfect 10-0-0.

Hathaway then fought Rick Story at UFC 99 The Comeback in Cologne, Germany, winning a unanimous decision victory.

Hathaway continued his undefeated streak at UFC 105 Couture vs Vera on November 14, 2009, defeating Britain’s Paul Taylor by unanimous decision.

It was announced on February 2, 2010 that Hathaway would return at UFC 114 Rampage vs Evans to face off against Diego Sanchez, who was returning to the Welterweight division after going 2-1 in the lightweight division, only losing to B.J. Penn due to doctor stoppage in a Lightweight title fight. The 6-foot-1 Brit made his U.S. debut and used his long reach, crisp and powerful striking, a surprisingly effective sprawl, and dominant ground game to grind out a lopsided unanimous-decision win over The Ultimate Fighter winner.
